OUTPOST: Stephen Evans & The True Grits

– ALL AGES- STANDING ROOM ONLY- RAIN OR SHINE Stephen Evans & The True GritsAfter many years of vacillating between being a professional musician and building a nest in Asheville, NC, Stephen Evans finally asked his friends, Brian Shoemaker (bass), Sam Hess (drums), and Woodstock (mandolin), to form the True Grits and make some music together in 2014. The very next year, Stephen Evans & the True Grits released their first LP “Something to Bleed”.  Inspired to release more music, they followed two years later with their EP “Under the Bridge.”  Both records received local and regional praise for their passion and creativity. Stephen’s strong melodic songwriting style is a blend of vivid imagery, darkness, and hopeful optimism.  There’s no denying the feeling that shines through with his evocative vocals and lyrics.  Songs like ‘Ghost Among the Trees’, ‘The Garden’, ‘Cherokee Hills’, ‘Shining Star’, and ‘Buzz of Bees’ are beacons of his folk rock song craft. With radio play on Western North Carolina radio stations, as well as shows around the region, Stephen Evans & the True Grits are becoming a local favorite.   “Buzz of Bees” is their latest album, released in December of 2022, of folk rock with some songs dipping their toes into other styles like Americana, Latin Folk, and Vaudeville.  Singles from the LP, ‘Ghost Among the Trees’, ‘Winning the Day’, and ‘Estefania’, are already receiving radioplay on local stations as well as national online radio and music podcasts.  Look for Stephen Evans & the True Grits playing fun live shows all around the area to support this beautiful album.Scott Stetson’s Stink Bug Bourdon BandScott Stetson is an Asheville based singer-songwriter originally from Rochester, New York who now calls Asheville NC home. Mary Lattimore

– ALL AGES- SEATED SHOW- LIMITED NUMBER OF PREMIUM SEATING TICKETS AVAILABLEMARY LATTIMORE Through evocative, emotionally resonant music, Goodbye, Hotel Arkada, the new LP from American harpist and composer Mary Lattimore, speaks not just for its beloved namesake — a hotel in Croatia facing renovation — but for a universal loss that is shared. Six sprawling pieces shaped by change; nothing will ever be the same, and here, the artist, evolving in synthesis, celebrates and mourns the tragedy and beauty of the ephemeral, all that is lived and lost to time. Documented and edited in uncharacteristically measured sessions over the course of two years, the material remains rooted in improvisation while glistening as the most refined and robust in Lattimore’s decade-long catalog. It finds her communing with friends, contemporaries, and longtime influences, in full stride yet slowing down to nurture songs in new ways. The cast includes Lol Tolhurst (The Cure), Meg Baird, Rachel Goswell (Slowdive), Roy Montgomery, Samara Lubelski, and Walt McClements.   “When I think of these songs, I think about fading flowers in vases, melted candles, getting older, being on tour and having things change while you’re away, not realizing how ephemeral experiences are until they don’t happen anymore, fear for a planet we’re losing because of greed, an ode to art and music that’s really shaped your life that can transport you back in time, longing to maintain sensitivity and to not sink into hollow despondency.”   Memories, scenes, and split-second impressions have long filled Lattimore’s musical universe. As one of today’s preeminent instrumental storytellers, she has “the uncanny ability to pluck a string in a way that will instantly make someone remember the taste of their fifth birthday cake,” writes Pitchfork’s Jemima Skala. Lattimore’s impulse to record life as it happens matches her drive to travel and perform, as profiled by Grayson Haver Currin for The New York Times: “Lattimore recognized that being in motion shook loose strands of inspiration, moods she wanted to express with melody. She needed, then, to remain on the go.” That sense of fluidity has also made her a prolific collaborator outside of solo work. 2020’s Silver Ladders, recorded with Slowdive’s Neil Halstead, opened the door for Lattimore to widen the vision of her primary project as well, and its proper follow-up is the natural next scale. “All of these people I asked to contribute have deeply affected and inspired my life.”   For the title and inspiration, Lattimore’s mind returns to the island of Hvar in Croatia, where she first saw those silver ladders at the water’s edge. “There’s a big old hotel there called the Hotel Arkada, and you could tell it had been hosting holiday-goers for decades in a great way. I walked around the lobby and the empty ballrooms and it looked like a well-worn, well-loved place. My friend Stacey who lives there told me to ‘say goodbye to Hotel Arkada, it might not be here when you get back’ and I heard soon after that it was actually going to be renovated in a very crisp, modern way.” Lattimore became fixated on the ingredients that make a place special — for Hotel Arkada, the patinaed chandeliers, the patternedbedspreads, the echoes of its intangible charm — and how when those leave this world, as they inevitably always will, it feels important to memorialize them, “to bottle it for a brief second.”TOPOGRAPHIES

Tina and Her Pony (Album Release Show)

– ALL AGES- FULLY SEATED SHOW- LIMITED NUMBER OF PREMIUM SEATING TICKETS AVAILABLETINA AND HER PONY “Tina & Her Pony deliver a gentle folk music that inexorably swells into a powerful wave. The songs themselves carry a gentle wisdom that invigorates the listener.  Tina & Her Pony truly commit to a kind of chamber folk that feels as timeless as it does timely.” – Rachel Cholst, NO DEPRESSION  In a soundscape rich in folk and americana offerings Tina and Her Pony stand out with their clarity and freshness. Harmonies, arrangements, lyrics and captivating vocals combine to create something greater than the sum of the pieces which, taken individually, are deceptively straightforward. Their music chronicles complex emotional landscapes with the kind of wisdom and honesty required from roots music in its most distilled and cherished forms.  The pandemic brought much change and loss to Tina’s world, and this is reflected in her fresh material, a collection of songs that comprises her newest record, “Marigolds” (2023). But Tina has been upending expectations and convention from early on. Her distinctive vocals and songwriting are the product of both a conservatory education and her singular taste in female folk artists like Gillian Welch, Joni Mitchell and Kate Wolf.  Though originally founded as a duo by both Tina Collins and Quetzal Jordan, these days the band is centered solely around the songwriting and singing of Tina, who is accompanied by a rotating cast of inspired instrumentalists and friends.  The current core band features Melissa Hyman on electric bass, Ryan Furstenburg on electric guitar and Ross Montsinger on drum kit. “Even within the world of folk, Tina & Her Pony’s sound can’t be defined within a single culture or concept. What is undeniable, however, is the soul-stirring power of the music itself”.  – Andria Brown, Folk All Y’all    Identifying as queer also plays an important role in how Tina approaches her unique blend of indie Appalachian folk, Americana, and her essential musical and personal expression.  In recordings as well as live performances, Tina always strives to provide the listener with a deep oceanic counterpoint to her earthy, time-honored musical approach.  It’s an apt metaphor for the dark and the light of life, for the transformation of life’s joys and sorrows into songs that Tina & her Pony has strived to create since 2010. Tina counts through-hiking the Appalachian Trail as a formative musical and human experience, deepening her connection to that place and its musical traditions while also relishing places of fluidity in both art and expression, constantly inverting expectations.  Live performances weave a fascinating web of sound and intention that draw the audience in. Listening to Tina & Her Pony offers a window into an interior landscape that begs to be explored. FWUITFwuit is an Asheville-based retro soul band consisting of members of the band MOVES and Holy Ghost Tent Revival. Dulci, Kevin and Ross play a mix of original music and carefully chosen covers, highlighting beautiful two-part harmony atop the deepest pockets of groove.
