With his 12th studio album Why The Worry, Walker further builds upon this reputation. Set straight by the title’s mantra, Why The Worry finds the veteran singer-songwriter letting go of the worry about perception, the worry of over-preparation, and the worry that seeps in constantly from the news and noise of everyday life. Taking a page from Willie Nelson, Walker embraced the country music legend’s sage wisdom, “I’ve never seen worry accomplish anything, so I decided not to do it.” Indeed, the album was just about finished when Hurricane Helene hit Walker where he lives in the mountains around Asheville, and as a result, the record almost didn’t see light. As catastrophe took shape, the album’s importance wavered in his mind until the central theme came back into view. The worry wouldn’t undo any damage, and there was still service in song. Growing up on a commune in rural North Carolina, the son of classically trained musicians, Walker played cello long before discovering the guitar in his 20s. When his introduction to the blues came via his Uncle Landon Walker, who was both a musician and disc jockey, his fate was forever sealed. Instantaneously, Seth was looking to artists like T-Bone Walker, Snooks Eaglin, and B.B. King as a wellspring of endless inspiration. The rest is history. He’s released twelve albums, broken into the Top 20 of the Americana Radio Charts, reached No. 2 on the Billboard Blues Album Chart and received praise from NPR, American Songwriter, No Depression and Relix, among others. Alongside his extensive songwriting and recording pursuits, Walker is consistently touring and performing at venues and festivals around the world. Along with headline shows, he’s been invited to open for The Mavericks, Marc Broussard, The Wood Brothers, Raul Malo, Paul Thorn and Ruthie Foster, among others. Prior to relocating to Asheville in 2020, Walker did stints residing in Austin, New Orleans and Nashville. He’s used those experiences wisely, soaking up the sounds and absorbing the musical lineage of these varied places. With a bluesman’s respect for roots and tradition, coupled with an appreciation for—and successful melding of—contemporary songwriting, Walker sublimely incorporates a range of styles with warmth and grace. ALL AGESSTANDING ROOM ONLY REAL FRIENDS For as much as the world has changed since Real Friends first emerged in 2010, the band’s mission hasn’t. The Chicago, Illinois quintet continue to bleed without apology and write songs that make it okay to feel everything: The ups, the downs, and everything else in between. Rather than shy away from emotion, the renowned group runs right towards it with distortion cranked and hearts opened, tightening their careful distillation of pop-punk and emo on each subsequent release. The band’s forthcoming 13-track album “Blue Hour” (released October 11th 2024) is a shift from previous works, reaching even deeper into complex emotions and subject matter with heavier overtones. Working again with producer Andrew Wade, Real Friends set out to make the album they truly wanted to make, and feel like they fully achieved that goal. They released their debut EP “First Day of Camp” in April 2016, and the follow up singles, “Watchful Eye” and “Generation Gap” in February 2018. The band then went on hiatus until Fall 2022, when they decided to reunite. The released their most recent singles “Gimme More” and “Tiny Hands” in Fall 2023. Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, a city rich in character and music history, this six-piece performance powerhouse carves their own path with an independent mentality. Front man Roads, explores feelings more than sounds, seeing where the emotional travel can take him, while valuing being comfortable and honest. There is a sense of seeing where the music can go on their 2024 new album. As an everyman-band making music to overcome life’s obstacles, the “goals” that Tropidelic made when starting the band have all been surpassed. Roads says of the band’s future, “I’m nose to the grindstone. It’s going great and I am going to keep going.” BALLYHOO! Through 25 years and eight independent albums, the last four on their own Right Coast Records, Ballyhoo! have earned the exclamation point which marks their name. Starting in the basement of their mom’s Aberdeen, MD, home, rocking out on guitar and drums respectively, practicing every day, brothers Howi and Donald Spangler formed the proto-punk band in the mold of Green Day and Nirvana, with an eye towards the emerging ska genre led by Goldfinger, Sublime, 311 and No Doubt. The group’s eighth and most recent studio album, the breezy, ska-fueled, hookfilled Message to the World, on their own Right Coast Records, finds the selfdeclared “beach-rockers,” having grown up in public, accepting the responsibilities of adulthood while still hanging on to their dreams of world domination. Stylistically, their music ranges from the hard-edged punk of 2018’s Detonate, which captured the feelings of anger and depression from dealing with personal loss and the exhaustion generated by over a decade on the road to the island reggae beats of the follow-up, Message to the World. “Whatever you want to achieve, just focus on that and work towards it,” explains Howi about the Ballyhoo! ethos. “Don’t worry about followers, views, or even money. Just keep making good stuff. One day it may be possible to finally quit that day job and live your dream full time.”Ballyhoo! is still doing just that, purveying good vibes, positivity and fun live shows meant to take you away from real life… DALE AND THE ZDUBS A fresh rock-reggae groove is flowing out of the nation’s capital, and their name is Dale and the ZDubs. OMAR RUIZ-LOPEZ Omar Ruiz-Lopez – Durham, NC (Roots / Progressive Folk / Old-time / Americana) is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and educator based in Durham, NC. Proficient in violin, viola, guitar, and mandolin, he has been a vital part of the NC Triangle music scene for over a decade. After a stint in Nashville (2023–2025), he recorded and performed with artists like GRAMMY-nominated War and Treaty, Lizzie No, and Langhorne Slim, and co-wrote with Rachel Baiman and GRAMMY-winner Melody Walker. He is currently working on an EP with Willa Frank (Paper Wings) and a full-length album with Rachel Baiman producing.
