Described by Zac Brown as “a mad scientist with a five-string fiddle,” the GRAMMY-nominated fiddle player loves to experiment, collaborate, teach, travel, and push the boundaries of not only his instrument, but of what it means to be an independent working musician in the modern music industry. Currently, that means pouring himself into Otherlands: A Global Music Exploration. Produced, performed, recorded and filmed by Driessen, Otherlands is a travelogue of on-location recordings, short films, and essays documenting musical collaborations through Spain, Ireland, Scotland, India, Japan, Finland, Italy, Slovakia, and Czechia. Driessen undertook this nearly year-long journey with his family, and the results are a 27-episode video series, a 13-song recording of collaborations titled Otherlands:ONE, stories from each encounter, and hundreds of photos.  In the fall of 2024, Driessen launched the annual Blue Ridge Fiddle Camp at the Brevard Music Center in Brevard, North Carolina. For fiddlers & violinists of all styles, this immersive four-day experience celebrates individual voice through the exploration of style, rhythm, and technology under the guidance of a world-class faculty. Embracing both tradition and innovation, the camp invites all adventurous and open-minded players of the instrument to come together and shape the future of bowed string playing. Before setting off on his Otherlands adventure, Driessen spent four years as Program Director of the Contemporary Performance (Production Concentration) master’s degree at Berklee College of Music’s first international campus in Valencia, Spain. While working in Valencia, Casey released The Chop Notation Project. Created in partnership with Spanish violinist Oriol Saña, this free resource creates standardized music notation to read and write the percussive bowed string technique known as chopping. Over the past 15 years, Driessen has released four solo records and toured as a one-man live looping show called The Singularity; collaborated with Béla Fleck, Bassekou Kouyate, Abigail Washburn, Raghu Dixit, Steve Martin & Martin Short, Jerry Douglas, Steve Earle, Darrell Scott, Tim O’Brien, and others; produced and engineered records; teched, managed stages, tours, and merch; and travelled the world playing music in 22 countries on four continents and counting…all while wearing red shoes.

Brennen Leigh w/ Hearts Gone South

etix Brennen 3428851755511876

ALL AGES SEATED SHOW LIMITED NUMBER OF PREMIUM SEATING TICKETS AVAILABLE   BRENNEN LEIGH When it comes to Brennen Leigh, there is no question. Always and assuredly precise in her ability to craft country music of the highest caliber, her latest album – the uncompromisingly titled Don’t You Ever Give Up On Love – is packed full of playful earworms, tender tearjerkers and honky tonk quintessence that two steps straight to the heart.  Offered as a declaration for the desperate, the titular track that opens the album was initially composed by friend and fellow musician Elijah Ocean, who had completed a portion of the song with Leigh in mind. “My immediate reply was ‘Don’t you dare finish that without me,’”says Leigh. Bright and blissful, the resulting co-write boasts a cinematic quality akin to the soundtrack of a countrified happily-ever-after ending. Nodding to some of the more cautionary cuts of artists like Loretta Lynn, Leigh quickly removes herself from a rubbish romantic relationship in stride on the pedal steel heavy “Dumpster Diving.” Although self-described as a “trashy little tune,” do not discard the wisdom earned from Leigh’s brief suffering by “settling for less than we deserve in love.” A lover of subjects tried and true to the genre, Leigh’s talents as a writer apply equally to songs of both the cheating and drinking variety. “This album needed one more country & western cheating song,” explains Leigh of the twangy “Tell Me.” “This one is about when you already know something isn’t right, but you need to hear it from someone else. I imagine it as a phone call to the other woman, who isn’t telling the truth.” While “Tell Me” anticipates terrible news, “A Reason to Drink” serves something sadder. “One of my favorite topics in country & western music is alcoholic denial and shame,” shares Leigh. “The love interest in this song chases an unavailable person because she gives him a reason to drink excessively, while the singer chases the unavailable alcoholic. It’s a dysfunctional cycle I don’t recommend, unless you’re trying to gather material for country songs.” “Thank God You’re Gone” is the first of three tunes that appear on this record credited to Leigh and singer, songwriter and console steel guitar player Alex Miller as part of the pair’s prolific writing sessions. One of two written on the same day, the jaunty track is a euphoric expression of good riddance capable of calling all to the dance floor. HEARTS GONE SOUTH Original classic-style country and honky tonk full of heart and soul, laced with wit and woe. Bringing fire and feeling to the age-old stories of heartbreak, love, loss, and victory for the underdog. Hearts gone South shoot straight from the hip with impassioned vocals, a tight rhythm section, and smoking leads to hit their target dead on. Based out of Asheville, NC, they have played sawdust strewn floors to festival stages everywhere from Anchorage to Austin. What started out as a wild hair has turned into a love affair, travelling the country, capturing hearts and putting a wiggle in the walk in folks near and far.
