THE ORANGE CONSTANT
The Orange Constant formed in 2012 and has since made a name for itself across the American Southeast. Now residing in Athens, Ga., the group continues to grow a loyal fan-base that craves its vintage-rock sound with a contemporary twist. TOC’s debut album, Time to Go (June 2015), was recorded with Grammy-nominated producer John Keane (R.E.M., Widespread Panic) and garnered praise from Relix Magazine as a “confident and polished debut album…laden with connective riffs and melodious charm.” The band shares bills with acts such as Perpetual Groove, TAUK, Pigeons
Playing Ping Pong, and CBDB and won the 2016 Flagpole Athens Music Award for best “Jam/ Funk” band. Its second LP, Point of Reference (March 2017), was produced by Drew Vandenberg (of Montreal, Kishi Bashi, Futurebirds) and demonstrates an urge to break genre restrictions. The band returned to Keane for its third full-length release, Peel (May 2020), which features all five current members. The Orange Constant draws influence from many styles and fans are often drawn to its ability to meld progressive composition and improvisation with a pop-like sensibility.
The group is: Andrew Brantley (guitar, vocals), Nickalous Benson (guitar, vocals), Tyler Walker (bass, vocals), Chris Freiberg (keyboards), Sam Groveman (drums).
“The Georgia-based band imbues tracks with sonic textures to create thoughtful indierock that is as ready to play in your earbuds as it is to boom through concert halls.” – Raffaela Kenny-Cincotta, Relix Magazine
“Eclectic rock n’ roll, everything from blissful southern rock and indie jams to urban funk.” – Grant Purvis, Home Grown Music Network (Point of Reference review)
“The Orange Constant’s confident and polished debut album Time to Go is laden with connective riffs and melodious charm. Much of the album evokes a 70’s FM AOR vibe, without appearing self conscious” – Larson Sutton, Relix Magazine
“They have hit a home run on their first trip to the plate. From the first strains of “Emily” all the way through to the jammed-out coda to “Ask Me to Jump,” Time to Go is a pure delight. You will hear influences throughout the disk, but this is fresh and exciting.” – Scott Hopkins, Music Fest News
The Orange Constant has pushed its way into a very competitive southeast music
scene, where they’ve been able to stand out as completely unique to their peers. It’s that seamless blend of jam-rock and pop sensibilities that continues to serve the ensemble — a melodic force that will only get stronger in the coming years. -Garret K. Woodward, Smoky Mountain News
