“A living dog is better than a dead lion.” (Thoreau)

Corey Parlamento, aka Livingdog, has a songwriting style that is best described as a mix of literature and cinema. When you listen to his music you are immediately brought in to a particular world that is both familiar and mysterious. His lyrics blend magical realism and narrative fiction to depict the modern mundane in a way that highlights the humor and beauty of the world around us. The composition and instrumentation of his songs pull from elements of indie rock, film scores, and American folk music. His music has been compared to that of Bill Callahan, Father John Misty, and Calexico. Parlamento currently resides in Asheville, NC. He has released two full length albums, Summer Homes and Childsurvivors, one concept EP, Scavenger Angels. He will release a new EP titled “All This Beauty” in May 2018.

Parlamento’s 2017 full-length release, “Childsurvivors”, was self-recorded and mixed in a converted horse stable in Western North Carolina. It is layered and complex and displays his ability to create deeply personal, intimate songs whilst maintaining a diverse sonic landscape. The album was largely inspired by topics ranging from childhood and family to masculinity and dominance vs. power. It weaves somewhere between the melancholic musings of Leonard Cohen and the dreamy experimentation of bands like Sparklehorse and Grandaddy.

Since his emergence in the Asheville area in 2013, Livingdog has progressively become a strong presence in the Asheville music scene. He has recently joined the roster of Asheville record label and arts collective, Eternal Mind Records. “Childsurvivors” was the first release with the Eternal Minds label. Whether performing on tour or at home in the mountains, Livingdog brings audiences an “honest and seductive setlist, driven by haunting, flawless vocals”. (Ali Marshall- The Mountain Xpress)
