A Benefit Concert for Food Connection
A Benefit Concert for Food Connection
Food Connection is a local Asheville nonprofit guided by a simple idea: connect freshly prepared surplus meals from restaurants, events, caterers and institutions in the Asheville area with nonprofits who feed the hungry. To date Food Connection has rescued over 30,000 fresh meals to deliver to communities in need, which otherwise would have gone to a landfill. Some recipient organizations include community partners to distribute food are the Veterans Restoration Quarters, Steadfast House, BeLoved House, East Asheville Welcome Table, Spring Creek Community Center in Hot Springs, Trinity Place Shelter for Runaway Youth, Music Works! after school program and My Sister’s Place in Madison County.
Many of the meals are delivered via Asheville Taxi who offer their services to transport the food at a reduced rate.
The quality of the meals delivered is stellar, "Foodtopia" Asheville food including crab cakes, beef sliders, pork tenderloin, grilled local veggies, kale, quinoa salad and grilled salmon. These meals are nourishing the bodies and souls of some of WNC's most food-insecure people.

"Forget being signed. Paper fades. Legends don't. I was born one." This is what this band lives by. They started out as street musicians, filling downtown Asheville streets corners while touching many hearts . "The streets is where we love to be. We get so much positive feedback that it pushes us to work harder. This is where we started and I wouldn't have it any other way," said Leeda Jones(Lyric). With a sound and style that is so unique, they're sure to please any crowd. Playing covers such as "Fast Car and Give me One Reason," by Tracy Chapman, to their compelling version of Tear the Roof Off/ We Want the Funk," by George Clinton, it would be hard not to get in the groove with them. Not to mention their well known catchy originals such as "Blue Skies," and "So High," which are loved by their many fans.
Lyric has played street festivals such as the Goombay festival, Bele Chere festival, Fall for Greenville Festival, Sourwood Festival and the Black Mountain arts festival. LYRIC have also played with Grammy award winning Count M'Butu from Derrick Trucks band, and opened for Grammy wine "Lizz Wright."
