In related news, you know that bartender that takes all those great photos hanging in the hallway? The guy is talented. You shouldn't keep that kind of light under a bushel or in a hallway, so this week he launched his own website: http://www.sandlingaither.com, and we couldn't be more proud. The internet doesn't give those things out to just anybody you know.
POPAsheville: Sat, Jan 19 & Sun, Jan 20
We love our city. And we love how many exceptionally talented musicians call Asheville home. For the first time, a whole mess of them will be corralled into an exciting 2-day, 3-venue festival; POPAsheville. Featuring no less than 34 performers, the festival seeks to both bolster relationships between both musicians and audiences, and to amplify Asheville's presence on the national stage. Not only is this the first multi-day showcase of local (& regional) music in Asheville, the occasion also marks the first time that multiple local music venues have come together to support one great cause, and we're proud to be a part of that. And since we're all a little spread out, there's even a free shuttle bus to get you from one set to another, so you can pick and choose the performers you're most interested in without having to hoof it across town or even start the car.
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year from everyone here at The Grey Eagle. 2007 brought many of our all-time favorite shows so far, and we'd like to thank you for your enduring support of live music all year long. In a year that saw rapid decline in attendance for the "big-ticket" concerts at amphitheaters and civic centers across the US, here the opposite has held true. Thanks for loving music as much as we do.
It's been a good year for recorded music as well, and we'd like to take a second to congratulate so many of our friends for making WNCW 88.7 FM's "top 100" list this year: Steep Canyon Rangers, Band of Horses, David Childers, The Everybodyfields, Uncle Earl, Firecracker Jazz Band, Menage, Eliza Lynn, Shannon Whitworth, David Holt, Amy Steinberg, Stephanie's Id, and Malcolm Holcombe all released excellent records in 2007, and we're so glad they've gotten the recognition they deserve. You can view this year's list (along with the top regional, bluegrass, reggae, celtic, and blues releases) by clicking here to visit the station's "Top 100" archives.
Thanks again, and we look forward to helping you connect with the music that matters to you in 2008.
