The Grey Eagle is proud to welcome heralded songwriter and performer Rodney Crowell and his band back to The Grey Eagle on Friday September 15th. Will Kimbrough will open the show. Not only is Will Kimbrough Rodney's fantastic lead guitarist, but he's a mighty fine singer-songwriter as well. Last year's show nearly sold out, so be sure to get your tickets in advance. Tickets are available online (with credit card) thru our calendar page or in Asheville at The Grey Eagle, Harvest Records and Orbit DVD (with cash or check). Friday September 15th - 9pm.
"We're an indie-vaudeville-conceptual-art-rock-slideshow band," says singer/songwriter Jason Trachtenburg. "Weve got the market cornered. Theres no band that can hold a candle to us. In that department." The offbeat Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players derive their song topics from vintage slides of random family vacations, the trio (keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist Jason Trachtenburg, slide projector/costume designer Tina Pi–a Trachtenburg, and preteen drummer Rachel Pi–a Trachtenburg) live a nomadic lifestyle, driving from show to show at diverse venues and spending little time in their two hometowns of Seattle and New York City. Due to the constant travel, Rachel, who began drumming at age six, attends an alternative school in Seattle. The Trachtenburgs have opened for They Might Be Giants, and became the first unsigned act to play on Late Night With Conan O'Brien. Touring in support of the their new DVD, "Off & On Broadway", they'll visit the Grey Eagle on August 23rd. Advance tickets are on sale now online and thru our local ticket outlets (Harvest Records & Orbit DVD).
Each year, the Mountain Xpress features "The Best of WNC," giving Ashevillians the chance to speak up about what they like to do and where they like to do it. For the past few years, we've been runners up in the "Best Place to See Live Music" and the "Best Place to Dance" catagories, and we would like to reclaim what's rightfully ours. We can only do this with your help and your vote. We consider ourselves extremely lucky to have such fine friends and loyal patrons and we want to thank you for your continued support. Please take a few minutes, visit the Mountain Xpress site and vote for YOUR favorite place to hear live music. Voting is open until August 7th.
