Asher Leigh
Asher Leigh
Asher Leigh is a singer/songwriter from Asheville, NC who shares alternative folk music blending unique styles of contemporary pop with nostalgic lyrics, inviting listeners into deep, personal reflection and connectedness. Her “soul-inspired folk” asks audiences to listen beyond what is seen and heard, allowing the music to connect us with a timeless, ageless experience within.

Making a debut appearance onto Asheville’s music scene this year, Asher has helped bring several successful projects to life including a collaborative music/spoken word performance for TEDx (in Tryon, NC) and a collaborative children’s music album (“Come Play with Me,” performed by original duo band, Dolphin Bum Bum).

Asher’s passion for positive songwriting and soulful-expression are fused by the integrative self-discovery process she stumbled upon when she began playing music at age 25. What followed was a long road of trial and error, and experiences mirroring low self-worth, painful emotional imbalances, and lifelong family struggles. Through these challenges she has learned how to cultivate inner fulfillment, harmonious relationships, and loving communication through her creative voice on and off stage.

“Music is one of the greatest mysteries I’ve come across. It has been my vehicle to connection, as well as the fruit of it. Either way the experience of writing a song is filled with wonder every time.” Discovering her talent and love for music in the hills of Asheville, NC as an adult was a defining moment in Asher’s life. “I didn’t even know I was creative, let alone ‘good’ at music, so it was a huge identity shift for me. I always loved singing as a child but was a dedicated athlete, and had no idea there was such a gem hiding in my love for poetry and storytelling through song. When I finally followed the intuitive nudges that were leading me to explore it, I felt like I found my truest calling, and a lifelong purpose of inspiring others through songwriting and performance.”

In addition to writing and performing, Asher also inspires other musicians/artists seeking self-nurturance to access their own emotional clarity, inner wisdom, and activation of a loving, creative voice through classes, workshops, public talks, and individual programming. “I believe now that every person has this kind of thing within them – an expression that feels like home, and that is a gift to many people. I really love helping others discover that, and working through whatever emotional barriers prevent them from expressing their creative callings. For some that is music and art, and for some it is raising a family, or teaching, or being an accountant. I’ve learned that fulfillment is experienced within, and anything can be a loving expression rich in meaning if we know how to access our inner truth and share it courageously.”

Asher has shared the stage with local musicians Luna Ray, and David LaMotte, and also supports community causes such as domestic violence awareness, youth empowerment, and community philanthropy. Her new album, Roots Alive is publicly available Feb 17th, 2019.
