The Paper Crowns Band
The Paper Crowns Band
The Paper Crowns are one of the premier duos on the Southeast music scene. They have returned to their jam and psychedelic roots with their full on electric ensemble - The Paper Crowns Band. Their sound is a potluck of blues, psychedelic and Southern rock, American folk and jazz, Gospel and funk. The Paper Crowns Band mission is to deliver dynamic original music, soulful songs played with intrepid improvisation. The Paper Crowns Band includes Spiro and Nicole Nicolopoulos, David Mulder, J.D. Smith, and Steve Kemble.

Spiro and Nicole Nicolopoulos - Vocals/Guitars
Spiro and Nicole are Asheville’s multi-instrument, genre crossing power duo - The Paper Crowns. They’ve criss crossed the country playing live music and have found a home in Asheville for their full on electric band. Between the two of them they have played at events such as Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, Summer Meltdown, Baja Bash, The House of Blues, Soulshine, the 2016 Christmas Jam By Day and more. Their music has found placement in major network TV campaigns including the Olympic Games and for Visa.

David Mulder - Keys
David’s unique music style has been influenced by The Velvet Underground, Pink Floyd, King Crimson and Miles Davis. He has played with a wide variety of performers including the experimental music of Cerberus Shoal from Portland, Maine and the high-energy jam band Blend from New York.

J.D. Smith - Bass
The New England born bass player graduated from Johnson State College (VT) with a B.A. in Jazz Performance. Based in Asheville (NC) he has become a fixture in the music scene being the anchor for many Asheville projects including Phuncle Sam, Free Dead Friday and many more. His dynamic bass playing sets him apart as an artist in his genre.

Steve Kemble - Drums
Steve was born a percussionist, incessantly banging on his mother’s gumbo pots as soon as he could crawl. Steve moved to Asheville and is currently playing with Phuncle Sam, Chikomo Marimba, Curious George, Mande Foly, and inimitable Blue Paradox. When not playing music and building instruments, Steve likes to play in the mud and make homes and other stuff out of said mud. (See: MudStrawLove.com)
Phuncle Sam
Phuncle Sam
Phuncle Sam is Asheville’s own Dead~Centric “jam band”. Since their formation in 2004, Phuncle Sam has been firmly rooted in musical exploration. The band serves up inventive interpretations of Jerry Garcia, Grateful Dead and many others. They have built up a faithful following by using an approach that respects the improvisational traditions of The Dead, while exploring what can happen when individual band members bring their unique influences and interpretations into the mix.
Fish & Friends
Fish & Friends
James Fisher ("Fish") has been writing songs and playing in bands since he was 13. Since moving to Asheville, NC in '95, he has had the good fortune of playing & performing with a wide variety of musicians. Fish & Friends is designed to get those friends together in performance.
